Auckland based artist RUTH PHIPPS most recent works have continued her exploration of the themes of 'past and present', 'memory and intamacy' and the suggestion of human presence and absence through her representation of fabric.
"Fabric is at the same time personal & universal. We are inextricably tied to it from our first cry, to our last breath. And in addition to its ability to cover & protect, fabric is also used to honour and enshrine, conceal & reveal, & to convey symbolic & spiritual messages. This dual ability to convey both the practical & the symbolic attests to its integral role in the human condition, and continues to provid einspiration for me work".
Ruth is a Master of Fine Arts student at Whitecliffe School of Fine Arts. She has been exhibiting since 2004 and has her works in various private and public collections throughout New Zealand (and the Imago Mundi Benetton World Art Collection in Teviso, Italy).
